Verifiable Democracy Lab

Open-source cryptographic tools for democratic processes people can verify for themselves.

We build and study systems for verifiable aggregation, coercion-resistant voting, private sortition, and public accountability. The focus is not internet-voting hype, but careful democratic infrastructure: privacy, fairness, transparency, and independent verification.

The lab is based on published research and working open-source implementations.

Responsible by design

We do not claim that cryptography alone solves national online voting. Real elections involve malware, coercion, usability, identity, procedure, law, and public legitimacy — and no protocol substitutes for those.

This lab focuses on the cryptographic layer: privacy, verifiability, aggregation, sortition, and independent checking. The goal is not to rush elections onto the internet. It is to reduce blind trust in institutions by making democratic processes more transparent, private, and independently verifiable — starting with low-stakes settings where the technology can be tested honestly.

Aggios

Can a large collective decision be aggregated with public proof?

A browser-based demo for verifiable large-scale aggregation, with proof generation and public verification. The entire stack — including the EPA prover and verifier — compiles to WebAssembly and runs in the browser, so anyone can create an election, generate the proofs, and verify the tally without any server.

CRelections

What would serious coercion-resistant voting look like?

A Rust implementation of coercion-resistant voting ideas based on the JCJ protocol and Civitas, including credential-based voting, tallying, and verification components — a complete election pipeline, not only a protocol description.

Subsenate

Can we select citizens fairly without exposing private data?

A ZK-based sortition system for private, unpredictable, and publicly verifiable citizen selection. Nobody can predict or manipulate who gets chosen, yet anyone can verify the result is fair.
